French designer Pierre Cardin began his career in 1945, working for Jeanne Paquin, Elsa Schiaparelli, and Christian Dior in Paris before launching his own fashion house in 1950. He gained fame for his futuristic designs, launching his first women’s collection in 1953 and a men’s collection in 1957. Ready-to-wear collections followed soon afterwards.
