Seiko
Best value watch!
!
Understanding you cant deliver a solid bracelet at this price, I ordered a Blue Zulu Diver 22m rubber bracelet and now this watch is in my rotation with the Rolex and Tag, impossible to match this for a combined $200 investment (thanks to Jomashop discount) !!
Seiko Mod Mania
This Seiko is a beautiful little watch right out of the box, but after a little modification (a new white dial and retro hands) it is even better. Whether as a daily wearer or as a mod project, this Seiko is a winner.
best to have if you start to collect
Gotta say this exceeded my expectation by 1000 miles. Considering its price and quality, it is a must have if you start to collect watches.
Just Buy It Already! Exceeded Expectations By A Mile.
Quick Thoughts/Summary: The Seiko Fifty Five Fathoms is simply stunning, to say the least. If you are contemplating purchasing one (or any of the other different coloured variants), just do it already! Back to the watch: Being my first "new" Seiko, I wasn't expecting a super high quality finish or feel, nor the super solid (weighty) feeling of the SNZH53 - something you usually only feel with far more expensive watches. I cannot put into words how much of a bargain this watch is! For some context, it feels just as solid as my (recently sold) Omega Speedmaster, and I mean it!. It punches way above its price bracket. What's the catch? Nothing, frankly. If I were to be really picky (like I am, haha) the watch bracelet is somewhat lower quality than say, a high quality Tissot bracelet. But hey? Who cares if all the money has gone into the watch - simply throw a nice, colours matching NATO strap (like I have, blue on blue) or a quality leather strap and you are all set. The question is not "should I buy it" but rather "when can I buy it!". It's simply perfect for the price, heck, I would've been more than happy to pay another $100+ USD for it if I had to. Conclusion: You know the answer...Get One Already!
Best value for money!
I'm a bit of a watch aficionado, and I've been collecting for about ten years now. I did plenty of research before selecting my first Seiko, and I finally ended up choosing the blue Fifty-Five Fathoms, based on several reviews that I've read. I have to say that I am not disappointed. Considering the price, this watch is by far the best quality that I've come across in its price range. The bracelet, however, is not very impressive to say the least, but considering the price, Seiko had to sacrifice something somewhere. The bracelet is the smart choice, since it's an easy upgrade to a nice NATO. The watch is solid and tough, and the bezel action is smooooth, especially considering it's a 60-click and not a 120.
Extremely good for the money
This is an excellent watch and compares well to most watches below $500 with a few notable but acceptable issues. The look of the watch is so much better than most watches at this price point. Sunburst dial, applied markers, decent lume, excellent bezel, vintage vibe—the list goes on and on. Seiko really nailed this—Seiko could upgrade the specs on this watch and not change a bit of the design, and Seiko could get away with charging 6-7x the price here. The watch is based upon design cues from a 1960's diver, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, but its not a homage—it definitely has its own look. I think it also has a similar styling elements to the Sinn 104, which makes for a great combination. Bottom line, it's a fantastic look that does not disappoint in any way. Fit and finish are excellent for the watch itself, but the band is a bit lacking. The bezel is great and while the band looks good, my example squeaks due to hollow end links and cheap construction. It may serve some well, but I swapped it out for a mid-brown leather strap immediately and will never go back. Hacking and hand winding are missing, but in most use cases, these are unnecessary even though watch aficionados will complain about their absence. Your situation may be different, but if you are a new watch buyer, you shouldn't be scared off by the lack of these features. Accuracy is ridiculously good on my example. I am within 1 second a day—yes 1—which is almost unheard of on a mechanical watch at any price point. That's out of the box, on my wrist for a few days, and completely unregulated. I am sure I have gotten lucky, as most moments are not this accurate, and I expect for the accuracy to vary over time. Regardless, the venerable 7S36 in this watch is an excellent, durable movement that clearly can be as accurate as any mechanical timepiece. Finally, this is not a modern dive watch—just made to look like a vintage dive piece. With that said, 100M is not disappointing, as the original Fifty Fathoms watch that serves as this watch's design inspiration is only 50M or so. If you are a diver, you will need to look elsewhere, but if you are using this as a "desk diver", this is nothing to be concerned about. All in, for sub $150, I do not believe there is a better dive style watch. This is a super impressive piece that punches way above it's weight.
Very nice watch for the price
Just received my Seiko Fifty Five Fathoms in blue. It's exactly what I'd hoped it would be. Unbelievable automatic watch that feels solid and well made. My only small criticism is that it can't be hand-wound. But, for the price, really jaw dropping watch.
Really Impressed
I knew it was a little bit of a risk buying something as important and expensive as a decent watch over the Internet. Well, I needn't have been concerned. Jomashop's service, as always, was great. It was here in just two days (I live in the NYC area), just like the other watches I've bought from them (two more in the past couple of years). Of course it looks great (you can *see* that!), but the best part for a tech-geek like me is the timekeeping. I set it precisely one day, and checked six days later to see how far out it had crept. 6 seconds! Only a second a day? That's really amazing for a self-winding watch. I used to have an Omega (an older "Dynamic" model), and it wasn't nearly as good. Lost more than a minute a week. I just had to give this Seiko Automatic watch a great review. It deserves it!
best kept secret
One of Seiko's nicest low cost automatic watches, this watch is 10 times better looking in person then the photo's show. Great value and will not disappoint you on the wrist. if you love Seiko watches then this is a must have
