2-24-17-Update: One of the batteries for my drones is dead after only 3 charges. Yuneec only warranties batteries for 30 days, which is short for essential accessories. Very disappointed and dropping my rating accordingly.

I received my Breeze 4K a couple of weeks ago and I have flown it every opportunity this wet and windy Kentucky winter has provided. I think the Breeze is a very solid product if you understand what it is made for and the limitations of the device. Like Yuneec's tagline for the product, this is "Your Flying Camera" rather than a competitor to the DJI Phantom, 3DR Solo, or other entry to mid-level drones.

WHAT YOU GET: It comes with the drone, a nice hard box (no handle though!), two batteries, a charger, a USB cable to transfer footage, extra props, and prop guards.

WHAT IT DOES: It's a highly portable, stable, and easy to fly platform for recording 1080p footage and taking pretty nice still photographs. It's meant to stay firmly within line of sight, which is a good idea for this drone's target market. I've had mine 300' feet away and nearly 200' foot up using my iPhone 7 as the controller, and it flew perfectly fine. The batteries have been lasting me around 12-14 minutes per charge, and charge in about 40-45 minutes. Aside from the manual pilot mode, it has autopilot modes like Orbit (taking 360° video or photos of a point of interest), Journey (flies away from a POI to a pre-determined distance, then returns while taking video roundtrip), a couple of Follow Me modes (following a POI from a fixed point or the classic following behind the POI), and the ability to fly in first person view with an available headset and controller.

That being said, I've read a lot of comments here and on other discussion forums that one of the software updates for the drone dramatically affects the reliability of the Wi-Fi, so as of 1/17/17, I would not recommend upgrading the firmware until Yuneec has published and tested a corrective update.

WHAT IT"S NOT: The Breeze is not going to fly miles away or exceed the FAA's 400' ceiling for UAS. It's not going to take dramatic 4K footage for your next movie. It is capable of recording 4K video, but it is not mechanically stabilized, so you must run it through a filter during post processing to avoid pretty severe jitter. It's not a speed demon because it prioritizes stability and ease of use. Think of this more like a floating cameraperson rather than full-fledged drone.

THE FINAL VERDICT: I can see why a lot of folks are disappointed. Had I updated mine and have the crappy Wi-Fi issues currently affecting many owners, I'd be upset as well. However, mine has been pretty much flawless with the out-of-the box firmware. I also knew before purchase that this wasn't a drone that flies miles away. I'd be disappointed if I thought this was a direct competitor for a Phantom 3 Standard. It has pretty aggressive geo-fencing to help the pilot stay firmly in control. The Breeze is a beginner drone for me, and over time as I become a more skillful pilot and video editor, the limitations will likely frustrate me. It will be time to upgrade. Until then, I'm enjoying the Breeze and looking forward to spring weather!
Had my breeze now for about a week and wanted to provide some initial thoughts. First of all, I am a novice drone operator. As I was reading reviews for various drones, one piece of advice struck me...don't buy the best and most expensive unit you can find, because you will crash it and you do need to learn how these operate in general. Great advice. Out of the box, which is attractively and thoughtfully designed, you can fly this drone. It contains the a nice hard plastic box to carry/store the drone which is roughly palm sized, (with the outriggers and propellers, widening its size to be roughly a foot around). Propellers are already installed (they fold in) and the only installation are propeller guards that just snap into place. It also comes with 4 extra props and 2 battery packs (and charger). The instruction manual is pretty lame and uses ridiculously small font size. Almost impossible to see for someone over 50 (sorry kids, it WILL happen to you someday, so stop rolling your eyes). Nonetheless, thru some persistence and experimentation, I realized that you must first connect the Breeze to a local WiFi that you set up thru your smartphone. This process is very buggy and inconsistent. If I had one significant complaint, it would be that connecting to the WIFI is usually a 5-10 minute process of repetition and trial and error. It just doesn't consistently show up as a network choice. Once you get it connected, you go thru the set up screens. Unfortunately, these seem to show up multiple times even though the device has already been set up. The camera control is a bit un-intuitive--you have to toggle between flight and camera control on your smartphone screen. Its a little bit challenging, but this is probably needed because of limited screen real estate. Pilot mode flying really couldn't be much easier and i was able to get it flying pretty easily. You WILL crash it just getting used to the controls, so I would definitely not use indoors or near outdoor hazard areas until you get used to the feel. It takes beautiful movies. Quality is excellent. Doesn't record sound (for me, that was a surprise, but, duh, too much motor noise...) A little camera motion when the drone movement is being controlled, but really not bad for the cost in my estimation (it is only $399). You can see the movies on your phone, but it has a USB port to download the movies to your PC. Its a bit slow and inconsistent. One issue that I had is that I shot (or at least thought I shot), a 5 minute video but because the internal drone storage was nearly full, it didn't save anything. I wish there was some warning. Finally, battery life is really about 10-12 minutes consistently, but since 2 batterys are included, that's about 20-25 minutes of flight time. Charging from empty takes about 45-60 minutes.
Fun Drone! Good for beginners. Follow me doesnt work that well and As of today costco has a much better deal
