This is an amazing piece of technology and it has changed my fitness lifestyle. I wear it all day everyday, and it's equally suited for either a 2-hour run, or a black tie dinner.

Activity tracking is extensive and I've only used a handful of them in the 9 months since purchasing (from REI, not Amazon); outdoor running has been by far the most useful of the trackers, followed by treadmill running, walking, indoor rowing, stationary bike, and open water swimming.

This is not an Apple watch. It doesn't talk to you and tell you you're pretty or take selfies or do your taxes. It's ideal for people that are active outdoors, getting lost in the woods, or hiking up a mountain.
- Example: it recorded time, distance, elevation change, calories, and steps for a hike up a mountain to a monastery/brewery in Bavaria.
- Example: it recorded cadence, stride length, average & max mph/pace per mile, heart rate (with paired monitor), and 1-mile lap increments as I jogged a mostly unplanned half marathon through my neighborhood. And afterward, I was able to review all my data in gruesome detail on either my phone or home PC.

The weight of the watch is definitely noticeable with the metal band, but I avoid wearing that during activity, instead opting for the silicon band. Changing from one to the other is fairly easy using the supplied tools.

Cons:
BUYER BEWARE: The Garmin Fenix 3 will NOT accurately record treadmill running activities. I found that without a foot pod paired to the Fenix 3, the watch will underestimate distance, which will affect both your recorded pace and speed. Even on runs of 3-4 miles, recorded distance would be consistently off by a quarter to a half mile when compared to treadmill distance. Garmin has acknowledged that the device needs GPS to provide more accurate data and recommended the use of a foot pod. I've found that using the foot pod is equally inaccurate, but in overestimating distance vice underestimating it, which is equally frustrating given the cost of the watch and the pod. I've contacted Garmin multiple times regarding recorded accuracy, and they have pointed to their disclaimer that essentially says there's always room for error. This is the sole reason I didn't give the Fenix 3 all 5 stars.

If you enjoy even one or two of the outdoor activities that this watch tracks, it's well worth the price. Buy this watch and write your own rambling review.
